IT Sligo have launched a new MSc in Project Management. As the national leader in online higher education, this facility enables up skilling at a time and place that suits the student. These programmes build on the extensive suite of programmes already developed.
Building on the success of existing programmes related to Project Management, the department of Civil Engineering and Construction at IT Sligo are delighted to announce that they have been approved to launch a new online part time Post Graduate Diploma and MSc in Project Management, starting this September. Within this new offering are many electives to cater for various sectors such as Construction, IT, Science and Manufacturing. This allows the student to tailor their own Project Management masters for their particular sector. The programme has been designed to qualify students to undergo Project Management Institute (PMI) exams such as Project Management Professional (PMP).
In addition, the following construction related embedded Special Purpose Awards are available, which can be taken independently: Certificate in BIM and Lean Construction Management, Certificate in Strategic Construction Management and Certificate in Construction Law, Procurement & Finance.
Trevor McSharry, Head of Department of Civil Engineering and Construction and Chair of the BIM North West Region was instrumental in this initiative which was developed in conjunction with industry contacts to help address the shortage of project management skills being experienced in many industries. Having such a qualification will provide graduates of this programme with the key tools and techniques to take on increased responsibility of larger and more complex projects and also increase their appeal internally and externally of their organisation. Based on IT Sligo's linkages with the Lean Construction Ireland (LCI) and the Construction IT Alliance, the Certificate in BIM and Lean Construction Management will have significant demand in the market place. BIM enables 3D collaborative design and construction, which leads to a much more robust design as well as cost and schedule certainty. BIM works hand in hand with effective project management and Lean thinking.’
