FIDIC is to take a new direction with its series of Contract Users’ Conferences, which have been organised in partnership with KNect365/Informa over many years. The decision has been made to take the running of these events in-house following a holistic view by FIDIC of its existing events and conferences and consideration of different delivery possibilities. As a result, KNect365/Informa will no longer be organising our official FIDIC Contract Users’ Conferences.
Going forward, we will ensure that the voice of the FIDIC Contracts community is heard and indeed amplified and we believe that FIDIC now has access to sufficient platforms and engagement with our contract user community to initially take this work in-house and to provide an even better service to our stakeholders as a result.
The ongoing Covid-19 pandemic has changed FIDIC’s way of working in 2020, especially in the conference and events area and it is clear that 2021 is still unknown and will be different from previous years. FIDIC has learned a lot from the online events it has organised over the past year and we plan to apply this learning to improve our events output over the coming year too.
Planning and delivering future Contract Users’ Conferences in-house will bring the organisers of the event (FIDIC) much closer to the subjects under discussion and also the delegates and help to enhance our relationship with our Contracts Committee, which will continue to play a key role in the delivery of our contracts events. An in-house approach will also mean that FIDIC is able to engage much more closely with the issues surrounding new upcoming contracts and make better contacts with our ultimate customers – the global users of our contracts. Nobody understands FIDIC’s business better than FIDIC, its key committees and staff and we are convinced that this is the right move to make.
Bringing the organisation, production and delivery of FIDIC’s global Contract Users’ Conference series in-house will also enable us to continuously adapt and improve these events and give us the flexibility to easily change and improve the quality we offer to delegates. We will also be able to communicate these events more effectively and work more closely with FIDIC’s regional groups and global member associations in planning them.
So, going forward, FIDIC plans to improve the content and quality of its Contract Users’ Conference by renewing, revamping and relaunching them. We will put FIDIC’s contract users back at the centre of these events, listen to them and what they want to learn about and give a wider range of speakers the opportunity to share their regional experiences of using FIDIC Contracts. We will also create a much more organised Contract Users Conference community with discussion platforms, including using our Contract Users' Newsletter, strengthening our Contracts Awards, and share knowledge and provide more effective networking opportunities.
These are exciting times for FIDIC’s events and conferences and I am looking forward to moving forward with a new approach that will benefit FIDIC and its stakeholders around the world by delivering an enhanced and improved experience for the thousands of industry professionals who use FIDIC contracts around the world.
