DIT research student Eoghan O Murchadha with Dr. Roisin Murphy, Senior Lecturer in the School of Surveying and Construction Management have published the findings of their survey of trade and apprentice skills in Ireland which was carried out on behalf of the Construction Industry Federation (CIF).

Acknowledging that apprentices are essential to the sustainability of the construction industry, the Report identifies that skills gaps have emerged across the full range of construction trades, with a large majority of companies reporting an inadequate supply of qualified trades personnel.  However, the survey also found that over 60% of trades employers do not currently employ apprentices.

In its key findings, the Report also makes a number or recommendations to address the current shortfall in skills and these recommendations were highlighted at the launch of the Report.

The Report can be accessed here.
