Gemma McCarthy

Gemma McCarthy is Mott MacDonald’s Dublin Regional Director and Dublin Cities lead.  This is an exciting new venture, looking at an integrated approach at urban scale, to create innovative and far-reaching solutions for cities, citizens, and the environment. Gemma joined Mott MacDonald in their Dublin based Power team in 2012, recently leading the consultant team Irish onshore consents for the Celtic Interconnector and since 2019. She has extensive experience as an engineering consultant, working with WYG / PH McCarthy prior to Mott McDonald across a range of services including water supply, wastewater and network projects and electrical transmission schemes.  Gemma started her career with ESB International as a design and commissioning engineer on electrical transmission substations and followed this as a Project Manager and Key Account Manager with Schneider Electric Ireland.  During her time with Schneider Electric, she led on business development and client relationship management, delivering equipment and projects across utility and industrial networks. Gemma holds a degree in Electrical Engineering from University College, Cork.

In addition to her work at Mott MacDonald, Gemma is committed to supporting education and diversity, in particular encouraging young women to consider a career in STEM. “I am always inspired by the imagination, creativity, and joy in innovation when we engage with kids and students at all levels. Opening minds to all that a career in engineering can bring is important to bringing the diversity to the profession that will, in itself, lift what the profession delivers.”
