The North Runway and associated facilities were delivered on time and on budget at no cost to the Irish State. It will support the creation of 31,200 new jobs and €2.2 billion in additional economic activity. North Runway has been part of Dublin Airport’s long-term strategic planning and land-use prioritisation since the 1960s. The 3.1km runway includes 340,000m2 of runway and taxiway pavement, 6km of internal airport roads, 425km of electrical cables and 2,500 runway and taxiway lights. The project was highly complex in nature, providing modern methods of lighting and control incorporating energy efficient solutions. An ambitious earthworks balance was achieved which reduced the environmental impact of the works.
