project description:
J B Barry & Partners and sister company Barry Transportation were engaged by Dun Laoghaire County Council to design, and rapidly implement, mobility improvements and public space enhancements to the villages of Blackrock, Dundrum and Dalkey in Dublin. The project provided an opportunity to reimagine placemaking and the use of public space within the setting of attractive heritage villages. The expanded pedestrian zones offer opportunities for businesses to use the public realm whilst ensuring safe, physical distancing. The overall scheme promotes active travel mobility with segregated cycle lanes and supports the local economies. The resulting changed built environment in all the villages was, and remains, transformational, with engineers and architects working together for the common good.
